3 Things to Know Before Starting a Kitchen Remodel

Have you always wanted to make your kitchen exactly how you want it? Remodeling your kitchen is a great investment in the value of your home as it can also be a lot of fun!  But, before you start your kitchen remodel, there are a few things you should do and/or know to ensure that you love the end result, the process goes smoothy, and stays on budget.

3 Things to Know Before Your Kitchen Remodel

1. Know Your Budget

The most important thing you need to know before you begin a kitchen remodel is what your budget is.  Kitchen remodels tend to be expensive but can be completed on budgets large and small. Knowing your budget is important because nobody wants to make plans for a $75,000 kitchen remodel but only have a budget of $45,000. Going over budget is a common mistake so know your budget in advance and stick to it.

2. Know the Scope of the Project

You need to know what the scope of the project is so that you can budget accordingly.  You need to think about cabinetry, countertops and appliances, but don’t forget things like hardware and whether or not there will be changes in plumbing or electrical.

3. Know What Features You Want

When planning your kitchen remodel, consider not just kitchen necessities but functionality and luxury.  Some important questions to ask yourself are: What features are a must?  What features would be nice but negotiable?  What features will only be added if there is room left in the budget?  Do you need new hardware?  What type of new cabinetry are you interested in? A particular countertop material?  Before you begin, consider what features you want in your kitchen so that your finished kitchen is exactly as you dreamed it would be.
